Just a few months after our historic earned sick time victory in Chicago, Women Employed celebrates another triumph as The Cook County Board of Commissioners passed their own sick time ordinance on October 5th. For the first time, all employees who work anywhere in Cook County have the right to earn paid sick time, regardless of the size of their employer, or whether they are full- or part-time. The Cook County ordinance is patterned after the one recently passed in Chicago.
On June 22nd, with a 48-0 vote, Chicago’s aldermen passed an earned sick time ordinance that covers all Chicago workers, which paved the way for our progress in Cook County. Together, these ordinances guarantee earned sick time to almost a million new workers in the Chicagoland area. (Read more)
