Communities who work through the TRHT activities discover all people can benefit from participating in racial healing work and the deep, meaningful relationships that can emerge.

The Truth, Racial Healing, and Transformation (TRHT) framework and approach fosters healing and transformation at the individual, community, and societal levels. This approach examines how the belief system became embedded in our society, both its culture and structures, and then works with communities to design and implement effective actions that will permanently uproot it.

TRHT helps to guide local communities toward implementing change and inspires practices that ensure sustainable racial equity.

What is the Truth, Racial Healing, and Transformation Framework?

NARRATIVE CHANGE

We must create a more complete and accurate narrative that will help people understand how racial hierarchy has been embedded in our society and its legacy today, and enable them to envision what a transformed society will look like, feel like and be like.

RACIAL HEALING & RELATIONSHIP BUILDING

Everyone is hurt by the false belief in the myth of a racial hierarchy. In order to achieve true racial healing, we must engage with each other in meaningful ways. One important way we can do this is through racial healing circles in which diverse groups of people share their authentic stories in ways that help them to recognize their common humanity and empower them to more fully realize and use their capacity to  bring about change.

SEPARATION

Separation, often government-incentivized, has been key to perpetuating the racial hierarchy in health, educations, and economic stability. To achieve a transformed society that ensures racial equity, we must confront and overcome racial segregation, colonization and neighborhoods of concentrated poverty.

LAW

Our legal structure was crucial to creating and perpetuating the racial hierarchy. Our legal structure in all its aspects must be reimagined in order to jettison the racial hierarchy, create racial equity and foster racial healing.

ECONOMY

Our economic structure, like our legal structure, creates and perpetuates the racial hierarchy. Barriers to racial equity in our economic structure must be removed inorder for racial healing to occur.
