In 2024, we saw a troubling decline in the number of American Indian/Alaska Native, Black, and Latinx medical students following the nationwide ban on race-conscious admissions. This reduction could worsen health care disparities, as patients may struggle to find providers of the same racial or ethnic background, impacting trust and outcomes in care.
