[Convening] Advancing Racial Equity: The Role of Government – Local & Regional Government Alliance on Race and Equity

Events, Racial Equity
August 22, 2016

The Government Alliance on Race and Equity (GARE) will be hosting “Advancing Racial Equity: The Role of Government,” a day-long convening on November 10th from 8:30am to 5pm immediately before this year’s Facing Race conference in Atlanta, Georgia.

Register today.

The Convening will explore the growing field of practice within local and regional government to advance racial equity in their jurisdictions.

The convening will feature:

  • Glenn Harris, President of Center for Social Inclusion (CSI)
  • Sociopolitical comedian W. Kamau Bell—host of the CNN docu-series, United Shades of America
  • A panel of elected officials, including St. Paul, Minnesota Mayor Chris Coleman; Grand Rapids, Michigan Mayor Rosalynn Bliss; Cook County Commissioner Jesus “Chuy” Garcia; and others, and will be moderated by Clarence Anthony, Executive Director of the National League of Cities
  • Julie Nelson, Senior Vice President of CSI and Director of The Government Alliance on Race and Equity
  • Leon Andrews, Racial Equity and Leadership Director with the National League of Cities
  • GARE leaders from across the country

The goals of the pre-conference convening are to:

  1. Increase understanding of and commitment to racial equity and the role that government can play in advancing equity.
  2. Share local and national racial equity effective practices.
  3. Further cross-jurisdictional, cross-community, and cross-sector partnerships.
  4. Foster post-convening collaboration with community organizations and local jurisdictions, organized regionally and spanning nationally.

This will be an exciting opportunity to learn more about the spreading movement to create an effective and inclusive democracy that centers racial equity.

Register for the convening today.
